Penner+Muder - Same Monkeys Different Zoo

mood-cd012artwork
We are proud to present the debut album from Penner+Muder. The current hit Presence Of Another Man, on our sister label Wazi Wazi, has showed their talent in reduced grooves and sublime textures, and the album is definately keeping that vibe alive.

With a relationship that blossomed from a purely-for-fun session at Suol Studios in East-Berlin in 2007 Nils Penner and John Muder have, with just a handful of productions and live sets, developed a reputation for real quality.

Balancing melody with groove, melancholy with uplift and dancefloor sensibilities with a home listening vibe is a rare feat but Penner & Muder have pulled it off and have done so with a heavily song based album, a true testament to the talent here.

…going to be one of the big albums 2010… - De:Bug

…proving their undeniable talent as producers… - Ibiza voice

…an album that will reward the listener as it breeds familiarity. Superb. - 4 clubbers

…house music at its most deep and beautiful. Listen and learn. - DJ-mag

Filipsson & Lindblad to unleash Reflections on Moodmusic

mood-091artwork2
Filipsson & Lindblad aka Holmar Filipsson & Klas Sasse Lindblad gained some well deserved recognition in 2009 with their debut studio album „Splendor In The Grass“ on NANG Records (UK). Their fine mix between contemporary electronics and discofied elements gained a solid support within the dj community.

Now they duo is back with another cosmic journey into early 90s NYC house with „Reflections“ with a little help on keyboards from the jazz instrumentalist Dave Warrin who has released music on legendary labels such as Large, i! Records, Naked, Ubiquity and Nite Grooves, and amongst other things, co-wrote Lisa Shaw hit “Always” and was the band leader of the legendary San Francisco acid jazz pioneers Slide Five.

„Reflections“ was born on a lazy afternoon in NYC with Holmar & Sasse laying some ideas down for their now defunct Mr Negative project. Many moons after the song appeared on various playlists and dj sets and eventually became ripe for a release in 2010.

For remix duties our good friends Alex Prat and Isao Kumano from Tokyo Black Star sprinkled some love on to the arrangement and the end result is a fine mixture of boogie funk house music, as we know from the charismatic duos debut album „Black Ships“ on Innervisions.

The Rubadub takes a journey into modern NYC house grooves, showing the song in another context, with Holmar adding some chanting vocals in the break.

The Sunday Afternoon Mix takes another journey into mid tempo grooves, with an added piano and guitar giving more room to the groove for those perfect sundowners !

Support by Jimpster, Alexi Delano, Varoslav, KiNK, Deetron, Rob Mello, Jim Rivers, Nick Harris, Tim Sweeney, Llorca, Dj Deep, Ian Pooley, Ramon Tapia, Alland Byallo, Dairmount and more…

Reflections is out July 21st

The new Nick Chacona single, The Fear Remixes, featuring the lovely Kathy Diamond on vocals is featured on xlr8r.com - check it out here

Single is out now on digital formats thru *junodownload *whatpeopleplay *beatport

Nick Chacona - The Fear Remixes

mood-xx2_artwork2
Taken from Nick Chacona ́s debut album “Love In The Middle” on Moodmusic, The Fear was the standout track with the sultry vocals from Kathy Diamond and the low-slung production from NYC based Chacona.

We ́ve taken Nicks favourite producers to redo the boogie monster and what a package it is. Beg To Differ builds an massive anthem with their piano led mix, taking the disco tingled NYC vibe and bringin it to the future.

Münich based Bostro Pesopeo takes an early proto-house approach and turn the tune into MK influenced late night (or early how you look at it) burner with a wicked to top things off. Barcelona based Swedes, Gegenheimer & Jenius takes a stroll into Detroit influenced house with enough emotion and carefully chosen deepness to roll any floor into peaceful bliss. .

Slovenian born Sare Havlicek tackles his analog synth arsenal and creates a monster italo vibe known from his releases on Tirk sister label Nang and we do love it.

Last but not least Nicks partner in crime, Anthony Mansfield creates a modern disco roller with house vibes and some amazing analog bass for an up tempo take on the vocals

090 - Lemon Popsicle - Chordelia EP

mood-090_artwork1
1. Chordelia (Original)
2. Chordelia (Sasse Remix)
3. Chordelia (Mihai Popviciu Remix)
4. Start Again
5. Move On

Lemon Popsicle, Adrian from Wuppertal, Wollion from Cologne and Sandrino from Berlin, have witnessed amazing international success, with remixes and productions on the world’s finest deep house and tech labels like Yellow Tail, Dieb Audio, Rebirth, Brown Eyed Boyz, BluFin, ALiVE, Sprout and Night Drive Music – and now we are happy to welcome the production trio to Moodmusic with one of their finest moments so far.

Chordelia caught the ear of Sasse in early 2010 and has since been a favourite on his gigs, bridging the sounds between deep house and more detroit orientated sounds with it ́s rolling chords and immaculate production, kickin all the right spots on the floor.

For remixes Sasse decided to take the vibe to early Guidance territory with an added twist of modern groove, building an 11 minute chugger.

Michai Popoviciu builds a modern roller , packing the meat where the phat is with ultra crispy beats and a murder bass line, he surely is on top of his game !
Additionally we have 2 more original productions from the guys, Start Again showing their musical paths of deep house and Move On bringing the floor abilities to new levels.

Selected Feedback:

The Right Way is coming your way…

mood-089_artwork
After the current hit “Who ́s In The House” on Dirt Crew Recordings, Sasse & James Flavour continue the assault on the floors with another bomb on Moodmusic.

The Right Way was born on a long Tuesday night session at Sasses BlackHead Studios in Berlin with mountains of Beer and Chips to keep the vibes alive.

The original is starting the EP with dirty, pushing drums and the insisting vocal of going the right way till the bass drops and shows some genuine old school love.

For remix duties no-else came in question than the mighty Tony Lionni, being Berlin based he was glad to work on one of his rare remix appearances for us. His main remix concentrates on the nagging vocal and building a solid base of 909 drums and Detroit influenced keys for a orgasmic deep house chugger rolling like the Trans Europe Express.

His 2nd mix, the Deeptech Mix takes a nod into the early techno sound of KMS and drops in some sweet nu school beats and a massive bassline to keep the hands in the right direction. We like it !

James and Sasse delivers also 2 dubs, one more stripped down joint and a Piano dub for a dubbed up Basic Channel vibe.

Out on May 24rd on vinyl and digital !

Phonogenic teams up with Sasse for a double corker

mood-088_artwork

The 2 hotter than hot Finns have once again joined forces for a double header on Moodmusic called Freehold/Brokeeper. Allready supported by Jesper Dahlbäck, Phonique, The Timewriter, Deepchild, Chloé, GummiHz, Franck Roger among others.

Their first co-op entitled Chi Chi on Dieb Audio went straight to the charts of many top djs and broke the ever important top-10 at Beatport Deep House charts.

The EP starts with Bro Keeper, a deep jam consisting of a nagging bass line accompanied with odd atmospheric samples and a definite West Coast flavour to the groove, breaking into modulating synths before taking the route of hands in the air madness ! The dub strips things down to a more jolted groove, adding upright percussion to keep the shuffle intact.

Freehold could have been made in 1994, an old school stomper al á Nervous Inc with bold stabbing paving the way for a sub bass line and intelligent arrangement, rocking any system known to mankind. The dub is a ode to the mid-90s NYC dubs, taking the main hook and extending, teasing and warping it to create a reduced cocktail of floor dominance.

Juno Plus reviewing “Last Night On Earth”

juno_plus_logo

Stels latest offering on Moodmusic “Last Night On Earth” has been making waves since the release end of March. It´s been getting support by Jesper Dahlbäck, Kruse & Nuernberg, Josh Wink, Ramon Tapia, Tiefschwarz, Giles Smith, Thomas Shumacher and Tony Lionni among others, and is destined to be another biggie for Stel.

Check the excellent review on Juno Plus here

087 - Stel - Last Night On Earth

mood-087_artwork

1. Original Mix
2. MANIK Loves Roland Remix
3. John Dalagelis Remix
4. John Dalagelis Dub
5. Look Left Turn Right

Stel is back on Moodmusic after his recent excursions into the deep house charts with the Wiretappeur project with partners in crime Kruse & Nürnberg. His last outing on Moodmusic, The Nail That Sticks Out proved to be a burner with the hotter than hot remix from King Roc.

Last Night On Earth takes on where The Nail That Sticks Out left, keeping the floor strictly under control but still injecting a hefty amount of depth and tension to the soup. Mesmerizing pads and his impeccable way of arrangement won straight our hearts, and we ́re confident to say Stel is shining all the way through Last Night On Earth.

For remixes we asked our favourite producer from NYC right now, MANIK and Stels partner in Dieb Audio, John Dalagelis.

MANIK digs his Roland boxes out of the cabin and makes a Chicago influenced take on Last Night, shifting thru some pages from the Chez Damier page of house music in fine style. John Dalagelis delivers on of his trademark techy workouts with slamming beats and neat trickery in 2 versions, both being sure shot dance floor burners.

As a bonus we have Look Left Turn Right, a groovy affair catchy synth workout and an infective bass line to create a mystical mood which perfectly rounds the EP up.

Selected feedback:

Josh Wink - Good ep with good rmxs. I like the Look Left Turn Right track. Deep, moody and punchy!

Ramon Tapia - John’s dub and look left turn right are the ones for me ..will test them out

Basti Tiefschwarz - Tiefschwarz - John Dalagelis Dub i play it

Fabrice Lig - All the remixes are great, and the original is excellent, full support

Dan Mangan - Always been a Stel fan and once again, the original and mixes proves why.
Big props to John ’s mixes.

Giles Smith (Secretsundayz) Quite like “Last Night on Earth” with its building atmospheric groove.

Thomas Schumacher - Excellent stuff, both of John’s remixes are ace.

C-rock - wicked release. Shouts to Athens!

Kruse & Nuernberg (Noir Music // NRK) - Our friend Stel comes up with 2 nice tracks on such a good label with smashing remixes by John & M A N I K!!! Big Time!

Nuno dos santos - simply lovely! warm and deeeeeppp tech-house with a drive! last night original & remixes by manik & john dub for me..

Axel Bartsch - best mood since a while. love the original version of last night on earth and the remix is funkin too.

Sasse visited FM Brussels while playing Phonotherapy @ Mirano earlier in the month and laid down an hour of his latest tunes for Sound Traffic hosted by Rim-K. Lil Tony - Raw Trax Vol. 2 out now !

mood-086_artwork
Lil Tony´s 2nd installment of his Raw Trax series is out on vinyl and digital.

Getting support from big names such as Amé, Luciano, Sascha Funke, Jimpster, H.O.S.H, Martin Lansky, Steve Bug and Sebo K among others, this 3 tracker is a hot one !

Solid State takes the classic Detroit influenced Drum machine vs Piano theme a step forward, a impeccable jam of 15 minutes with the beat keeping the pace, this has been roadproofed the last 6 months to good effect.

The B-side Karamba is a dry, tight driven tech-workout, perfect mixtool for the deeper techno as well as housier sets. It just works well.

The closing Checkpoint Charlie is a tale of “lost in Helsinki” – dark mean bass wanders around and gives space for the chuggin main line, monotonic body music at it ́s best.

Dirt Crew - Deep Cover Remixes out soon….

mood-083artwork
Dirt Crew, hot from their recent 5 years compilation and the „Blow“ album on Moodmusic, is again on the wall with another hot remixpack…

Deep cover was the standout track on the album and gets the remix treatment from 2 of the brightest stars on the deep house scene.

Roberto Rodriguez builds up a massive groover with similarities to mid 90s deep dish sound but injects a slice of analog funk to it, showing the talent and nourishment in his music.

Vincenzo takes a deeper road, teasing the groove to slowly evolve into a tastemakers choice as we know him. deep, yet driving his mix fits perfect those early morning hands-in-da-air moments.

Support from Shonky, Stacey Pullen, Liapin, Soul Minority, Allan Byallo, Shinedoe, Deetron, Martin Eyerer, Nick Curly, gregor Tresher, Eddy Richards, Angel Molina among others..

Deep Cover Remixes is out on Jan 27th on Vinyl and Digital.

Freestyle Man album on Hairy Claw taking form

hc019_freestyleman_thebottomline_artwork
The forthcoming Freestyle Man album “The Bottom Line” is getting ready for a Feb release on Hairy Claw in the UK.

Consistent quality and Freestyle Man are two phrases that belong firmly together. Following on from two extremely well received EPs we are pleased here at Hairy Claw to present the Freestyle Man album ‘The Bottom Line’, the first full lenght Freestyle Man album since “Going South” on Sähkö/PUU in 2000.

Having a break with his Freestyle Man moniker for almost 3 years, 2009 was they year to reactivate the project and his 2 EPs on Hairy Claw proved there was a definite urge for the raw, untamed house sound Freestyle Man was associated with. The Bottom Line was recorded in Autumn 2009 in his BlackHead Studios in Berlin with a carefully chosen limited setup of vintage samplers, old school vinyl and his harem of analog synths, the result being somewhat updated version of the early Freestyle Man sound mixed with influences from the past, present and the future.

The Bottom Line is out on CD/Digital Feb 9th on Hairy Claw

Toni Lionni to remix James Flavour & Sasse project

Instead of storming the clubs and pubs of Berlin , James Flavour and Sasse have been creating a havoc in the BlackHead Studios, finishing EPs for both Moodmusic and Dirt Crew. The name of the game is dirty houz music, and we´re sure you will love it as much as we do here at Moodmusic HQ.

The EP on Dirt Crew will feature Sasse and Michelle Owen together with James Flavour on a 5 tracker with remixes from Luna City Express and the excellent Dirt Crew signing Yosa from Japan.

The EP on Moodmusic will be a co-op between Flavour and Sasse and will feature a remix from Tony Lionni.

More info will drop in the new year !

Phonogenic & Sasse in the studio working on new material

Phonogenic aka Tuomas Salmela and Sasse has joined forces in the studio in the last weeks and the guys are well amazed of the output, 7 tracks finished in less than 2 weeks - whooh !

Being around 2000 km away from each other, the co-op was based on file sharing and skype as main tools. While Tuomas was tweaking beats in Tampere, Sasse was mixing in Berlin - that´s what we call multitasking.

The results of these sessions will be out soon on various labels !

Nick Chacona ready to unleash album in 2010

mood-cd011artwork

Nick Chacona has been busy finishing his forthcoming album “Love In The Middle” to be released on Moodmusic in Feb 2010.

It´s been taking a while but definitely has been worth the wait. 10 tracks in all, the album shows all sides of Nick Chacona - starting from his disco roots we all know him from, going thru some dubbed out slow jams and taking a stroll into serious house territory with his collaboration with Brothers Vibe. Featuring as well Kathy Diamond on “Fear” and Anthony Mansfield on “Especial” the album shows the talent behind the NYC based producer.

The first single will feature a Levon Vincent remix of “Be Like Olive” as well as 2 extended mixes from the album.

Massive feedback on the Gegenheimer & Jenius release

mood-079artwork
The Basic Shape EP from Gegenheimer & Jenius is getting massive dj-feedback with plays and chart support from Motor City Drum Ensemble, Shinedoe, Franck Roger, Osunlade, Ame, Tony Lionni and
Roberto Rodriguez among others.

The a-side “Basic Shape” seems to be the winner here, but lots of djs also prefer the housier “Cadaqués” and the über chilled “IPS”. The swedish born production team is currently in Barcelona working on the follow up EP for Moodmusic.
