Sasse

Owner, AandR and main producer of Moodmusic Records and all-around good guy in the business since 15 years, Sasse is cooked in quite a many musical soups since he started djing in the late 80s. Building a solid ground with his numerous dj-appearances and his labels Moodmusic, Mood Limited, Sunday Music (together with Henrik Schwarz) and Must! there is not much he has not seen or experienced in the field of clubmusic. Currently residing in Berlin, he is working in his Mitte based BlackHead Studios and djing all over the world to good success. In the past years he s been djing in London, Paris, New York, Milano, Barcelona, San Francisco, Stockholm, Naples, Lissabon and Copenhagen to name a few. He is currently having 2 residencies in Berlin, at the Panorama Bar in Berghain and Week-end at the Alexander Platz. Sasse-s appreciation of production and craftmanship guides him in the studio and at the decks. In his music you will find electronic, luscious house vibes, funky, deep techno and electro styles. In the past years he has remixed and worked with as diverse artists such as Slam, Blaze, Phil Weeks, KemeticJust, Phonogenic, Jori Hulkkonen, Phonique, Hanna, Jimi Tenor and Marco Carola and for labels such as Dirt Crew Recordings, Buzzin Fly, Systematic, Crack and Speed, Brique Rouge, Robsoul, Playhouse, Pokerflat, Soma, Saehkoe, Set Foundation, Silver Network, Pooled, 20/20 Vision, Statra, Mantis, Moon Harbour, Italic and Dessous. The last single -Gravity- featured remixes from Peter Dildo, Mr Velcro Fasterner and Nick Chacona/Anthony Mansfield. The first Tracey Thorn single It s All True (Virgin) from her recent album was co-written and co-produced by Sasse with his partners in crime Ewan Pearson and Darshan Jesrani. He is also currently busy remixing Jori Hulkkonen for F-Com and Wagon Cookin for Compost for as well as working on new releases for Buzzin Fly, Mule Musiq and Moodmusic.

DSE discography

DSE

Biography DSE aka Deep Sensuous Ensemble is a project of composer and producer Jani Lehto. First DSE EP was released on Moodmusic in January 2000.The roots of DSE go back further. Jani Lehto wrote his first house tracks in the year 1995.Since that a quite big band of Finnish musicians has taken part in productions of DSE, and in the future the plan is to get even more domestic and foreign artists into studio. Elina Penttinen has been the vocalist of DSE and Pekka Tuppurainen has played trumpet since 1997. Two fresher visitors are guitarist Olli Nurminen and keyboard player Juha Virta. Flute player Kari Alikoski and trumpet player Epa Tiikasalo have also given the most important contribution for the music of DSE. The most important influence to Jani Lehto´s music has always been the records that DJs in Turku have played, thanks to the most soulful dance music culture of that small southern Finnish city. The deep and jazzy late night atmosphere is strong, as one can hear listening to the well rated Rebirth EP. In the future also more lively tones can be found, but in the heart of DSE will always be that smooth, erotic and distant sound of house music.

Loversrock

Loversrock, so far better known as Oli Mohnsame and Bruno Harth, began in 1997 elaborating their concept of contemporary music, after years shared at school and parties. Both were socialized in electronic dance music during the early nineties at the heights of the legendary Mannheim breakbeat scene. From their early adolescence, Oli and Bruno intensively engaged in music and music production.

Henrik Schwarz

Hailing from the Southern part of Germany, Bodensee, Henrik Schwarz is a longtime veteran in the German music scene. Djing was his first love, but, as a genuine music lover his musical boundaries were never restricted to one type of music only. In his early dj-heydays he played all major clubs and parties in southern Germany and got to know the scene inside out. Taking the opportunity to concentrate on his second love, design, he eventually slowed down his musical activities for some years but never lost his sight on all things fresh and groundbreaking in the music-scene. In mid-nineties he started slowly but surely get to grips with the production side of things and soon was playing live jams with his friends at the Bodensee area. This eventually was the initiation for his magical touch for his live sound. The option to use laptops instead of records took Henrik one step further, playing dj-sets with computers long before anybody else was doing it. Now he is more often seen playing live with his beloved Powerbook than carrying records. Sad though, as he is one hell of a good dj as well. His grooves sounds as if they would definitely not come from a machine, rather it sounds like a band jamming and doing some serious jazz business with a kickass attitude, not forgetting the dancefloor aspect. In the last year he has played all over, form Japan over London to Portugal and there is more to come. Sunday Music, his label with musical partner Sasse (aka Freestyle Man), is going strong with Leave My Head Alone Brain - and djs from all musical aspects hammering it down. A remix pack of LMHAB will be shortly come out with versions from Osunlade, Luke Solomon and Pete. Also a long-awaited Moodmusic release Walk Music will see the day of light early 2006. As busy as ever he concentrates at the moment on his own productions and remixes as well as hitting the road for even more live-gigs. There is no stopping right now for Henrik. Tuomas Salmela

Tuomas Salmela has released a number of records on such seminal labels as Chicagos Guidance and UKs 2020 Vision to mention a few. The wide musical range from the soothing soulful vibes of The Piece to the dark and atmospheric floormonsters of his Phonogenic project have provided him with huge support from the industrys key figures across the board. 2003 saw Tuomas bring new clubstorming additions to his catalogue under the Phonogenic guise. The Switch 12-inch was a big success with its much charted tracks -2020 Vision Theme- and the title track Switch. The 2004 Togetha ep was equally well received. With sophisticated blend of no-nonsense good time grooves and electronic moods, the record made its way to the record boxes of worlds many leading DJs. Among those was Pete Tong, who picked Generations (Jesper Dahlbaeck Mix) among his Essential Selection. Other highlights featured Tuomas remix of Hesohis vocal treat To Hold You single in its full 9 minute floor filling glory on San Fransiscos Aesoteric Records and the pumping Phonogenic mix for Jesper Dahlbaecks Pianomadness (2020 Vision). Dataholix was a project between Tuomas and his long time partner in crime Jori Hulkkonen. The single Powerplay (BR Trax) lived up to its title becoming a jacking floor favourite. 2004 has seen Tuomas working hard in the studio on various projects for different labels. Keep your eyes peeled! When Tuomas isnt paying attention to the details in the studio you might catch him DJing in the club next to you...

Star You Star Me

STAR YOU STAR ME is the electronic dance music band for the 21st century, two gifted artists doing what they do best: making music that is both driving and beautiful. JANI LEHTO, age 27, had been playing around with computers and synths his whole life when the deep house boom in the mid-nineties in their home town TURKU, FINLAND finally showed him the direction for his music. His house collective DSE reached for that warm NY house sound of those days but with Star You Star Me the new path was chosen... TATU METSAeTAeHTI, at 29, has already gained worldwide reputation in underground electro circles with his band MR VELCRO FASTENER and MESAK solo projects. His synth programming skills and musical ideas and visions double the creative potential of the duo. In the late 2001 Tatu and Jani started swapping their unfinished tracks: if Jani had an idea for a track he gave it to Tatu, and then Tatu would continue the process, or vice versa. First tracks were called Disco Dancer, Antidis, and Loveletter, and two out of three were later released on Slip -n- Slide Blue and Moodmusic Records. Star You Star Me was born. The first gig of Star You Star Me was in May 2002. Then the first release (-Disco Dancer- single) was finally released one year later with impressive reviews and comments accompanying. The sound of SYSM is a combination of minimalistic house grooves and emotional, high fidelity electronic soundscapes. It-s easy to recognize a StarYou track - fat retro disco drums beating on top of the most crispiest and widest synths sounds. Their vision of sound is coupled with the vision that music should always be momentous and not just entertaining, music should make people cry or laugh, give reasons to survive through the reality of day-to-day living. The music of SYSM is an endeavour for bringing their feelings and experiences honestly to the listener. Star You Star Me is the sound to move to, the words that speak. A return to the coolest disco sound re-energized for todays clubs, livingrooms, mediaplayers and iPods.

Thugfucker

A Chance Encounter with Thugfucker by Raleigh Neil IV (excerpted from the National Geographic Societys Internal Newsletter) I was two days deep in the Arctic tundra when i first started to hear the beats pounding through the air. It was bewildering. There wasnt supposed to be anybody living in a 1000 mile radius of this desolate spot, let alone a party. But after walking a few miles north I discovered two men gathered around a laptop, speakers and a giant battery. Completely immersed in what they were doing they didnt even notice my presence. Hmmm, this sounds right. Sounds good, one commented before the second launched into a heated discussion of how cymbal patterns affect the female libido. In my many journeys in the wilderness I had never heard anyone mention hi-hats before. I was intrigued. How did these men get here? Where did they come from? What business did they have deep in the heart of earths inhospitable tundra? I knew at that moment that I had found the subject for my next article. These men would definitely inspire the piece that could catapult me to a better position within the National Geographic Society. Surely theyll send me to Galapagos next, I thought. Quickly I grabbed my Nikonos V and started shooting -- desperate to catch this spectacle on film. And thus began my first encounter with Greg Oreck and Holmar Filipsson. What I had just witnessed was the emerging of one of their classic projects, Thugfucker and the beginning of what later became known as the Deep Tundra Sessions. It turns out that Holmar and Greg met in Greenland where they had both been individually exploring the worlds largest glacier. After their chance meeting at the summit, they quickly found they shared a common interest -- creating electronic music under extreme conditions. Together they took Extreme Music to a new level. Like Mr. Filipsson puts it : We make music where no man has made music before. Whether skydiving in the Andes, riding camels in the scorching Sahara or scaling the legendary and dangerous K7, the Thugfucker duo has managed to produce coherent beats and testosterone fueled productions that most people would never dream possible --especially under such demanding circumstances. Yet the Thugfucker guys thrive on it. And their material catches the essence of extreme living. They can be caugh djing and misbehaving at various clubs both sides of the Atlantic Ocean (Holmar based in NYC, Greg recently relocated to Paris) yet regardless of where they are their adrenal glands are always working overtime. Individually these gentlemen have kept themselves quite busy. After living in NYC for almost a decade wher he promoted and played at the various parties hes produced, Holmar launched CrackandSpeed recordings two years ago with partner Jef K of Silver Network. There these guys have released over eight releases of what can only be described as Music for the tuesday morning after party. Holmar has co-written many of these records under the various psuedonyms Mr. Negative, The Reykjavik Massive and The Spencer Filipsson Experience and they have enjoyed considerable underground success. The Spencer Filipsson Experience (consisting of Holmar and Olivier Spencer) has done remixes for Pokerflat and Ibadan Records while Mr. Negative (Olivier Spencer, Freestyle man and Holmar Filipsson) has just signed an album deal with Four Music and just finished a remix for Telepopmusik and Popular Computer. Their single Better Than You is currently out on Fine Records. Greg Oreck has spent the last eight years DJing around New York and around the globe. He welcomed the millenium in New Zealand with an 8 hour DJ set and has held the enviable position of official DJ for the prestigious Amsterdam Cannabis Cup. He has also done various productions and remixes under the A65 and Aksum monikers and helpe run the LA-NYC based Red Menace Records. He is also currently scoring a short philosophical film about surfing for extreme sports filmmaker Victor Muh. Thugfuckers newest releases. Pocket Rocket, Blatant Promotion and Are You Ready To Rock? will be released this fall on Music For Freaks. Also coming soon are remixes on Moodmusic and Unique Records. Their latest single, Bodyshaker is currently out and sitting at #10 on the German top 50 dance singles chart. It has been heard often in the sets of Tiefschwarz, Ivan Smagghe, DJulz, David Duriez, Boris Dlugosch and lots of other lovely young men and women. In the spring, Thugfucker will be travelling to Peshawar where they will be working on an upcoming full-length album.

DJ T.

As far back as 1977, at the tender age of 8, Thomas Koch aka DJ T. became an avid collector of vinyl. Until the early 80s his taste was shaped by the slowly fading era of disco and the simultaneous rise of Hi NRG. By 1980 it was Grandmaster Flashs New York rappers and glam funk exponents who introduced Koch to the world of hip-hop, funk and soul. Building on this newfound love, Koch soon became an avid breakdancer and developed an infatuation with a special variant of black music and broken beats: the electro funk of Africa Bambaataa, Newcleus, Planet Patrol and co. This music and an enduring passion for dancing was destined to leave a lasting mark on Kochs approach to groove and pervade all his musical endeavours as a reverberating reference. In 1987 Thomas decided to kick start his own career as a black music DJ in various discotheques around Frankfurt. At the seminal Omen (opened in late 1988) he soon contracted the Acid House virus and realigned his DJing to the 4/4 beats of early house, EBM and techno tunes, followed by early residencies (1988 to 1991) at a number of Frankfurt inner city clubs (like Music Hall or Plastic). Throughout the 90s DJ T. remained a firm favourite at many well-known Frankfurt clubs (e. g. Dorian Gray, The Box), until he and a few friends decided to open their own venue, the Monza Club, in 1999 where he continued to shape the clubs musical profile as promoter until the end of 2004. Back in time, in 1989 Thomas Koch also founded the influential German-language magazine Groove and continued to be its editor until December 2004. With a huge range of diversified projects Groove has become one of the worlds best-known media brands for electronic music. After 15 successful years Koch sold the magazine to a Munich-based publisher and left to pursue his own musical career and label work. As an author, he not only made regular contributions to Groove over a period of 10 years, but also to a number of books on music in the mid-90s (a. o. Localiser 1.0 and techno). In spring 2002 Thomas Koch co-founded Get Physical Music, a Berlin-based label that is run by a true collective of six longstanding, active protagonists of the electronic music scene. DJ/producer duo Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung as well as production team Booka Shade (Walter Merziger, Arno Kammermeier, Peter Hayo) have been working together for more than 10 years, with releases on a wide range of prestigious labels including RandS (Degeneration), Harthouse (Synesthasia), Touché (Booka Shade) and Tommy Boy (Oakland Stroke). DJ T., whose name first graced a record sleeve in 2000 as part of a collaboration with Steve Bug (Monsterbaze) on the latters Pokerflat label, has since become a firm GPM favourite with his own productions. So far, T.s discography boasts five very successful releases under his own name (together with production partner Booka Shade) but also a number of celebrated remixes and releases for other labels such as ArtofDisco, 20:20 Vision, Mood Music or Naked Music. On Boogie Playground, his passion-drenched, 13-track debut album, DJ T. allows his inimitable signature style to explore the scope of reference house. Drawing on elements and vibes from disco, funk and electro but also Chicago, Detroit, Italo and acid house, T. irreverently resurrects the spirit of his formative musical experiences between 1978-1992. Without pandering to prevalent aesthetics, DJ T. has carved his very own niche in the retro universe, but translates this into a framework of contemporary arrangements and sound design.

We added a brand new hot dj-mix from our berlin hero Dave DK to the Audio page. Dirty house music as we call it, Dave delivers a dirty deep trippy mix with the current hot releases from his record box. Also look forward to the new Dave DK release on Moodmusic Limited coming soon to a recordshop near you !

Dave DK

Dave DK aka David Krasemann is making waves in the electronic music scene for a couple of years now. As a big dancefloor lover since the early 90-s he was fascinated from the upcoming techno movement eventually leading him to make his own music. He started his career as a DJ and producer in 1995 with the project -foggy future-. Together with a friend Dave produced his first tracks and was involved in the organization of underground techno and house partys constantly trying to spread and push electronic music. Having honed his skills as a producer, the man with the chosen home of Berlin released his first record on Muller Records in 1998. Beside his remix productions for Beroshima and Skieback he released records on raum...musik., Decore, Lifetime Music and Cadeaux. It-s not that easy to categorize Dave-s sound. Actually he does not like limits in the music. His sound simply is the result of different styles that have influenced him throughout the years. -I have a passion for the wide range between house and freaky techno tunes as well as pop music and dancefloor stuff of the early 90-s-, says Dave. Since 1999 he is a resident DJ at the Tresor/Globus club Berlin. In 2000 he got his second base at the Ostgut/Panorama Bar club, Respected not only because of it-s brilliant international line up. As a result of his activities Dave is an essential part of Berlin-s nightlife. The highlights of the year 2000 are the first album -sensory overload-, which has been released on Muller Records, and his gig at the final event of the EXPO 2000 in Hannover. Today Dave records for Television Records and Moodmusic Records, where his debut 12-inch will come out in October 2005 on Moodmusic Limited.

Our Favourite Italians Eclat and Prudo comes up with another killa in the form of 'Freeland'. Slamming beats and crazy vocals drive the Original Mix to a peakhour climax while Freestyle Man turns into a more minimal start but pushes some extra horsepower into the track towards the end. The Moodmusic Nightstarter 3 Compilation takes off where the last series ended with the best of the recent releases and forthcoming gems directly from the Moodmusic headquarters in Berlin. Compiled and mixed by labelowner Freestyle Man aka Sasse Lindblad, the CD showcases the most upfront selection from wellknown artists such as Spirit Catcher, Star You Star Me, Sasse, Phonique and Dave DK, as well as new and upcoming talent. Sequnced as a dj-mix, but keeping the integrity of the songs intact, the CD starts from the funky nu-disco grooves of Star You Star Me (in the unrelesed Ian Pooley remix) and Common Factor all the way to more electronic clubtweekers from Spirit Catcher, Phonique and Sasse. Ending with 2 unreleased tracks from Stuart Geddes (of London Mulletover fame) vs Audiofly and Greg Oreck in perfect Nightstarter fashion. Available soon as a CD-mix compilation and unmixed digidownload from beatport.com, playwordandsound.net, stompy.com and djdownload.com
